Alliance Credit Union is known for the personal and professional banking services they provide for their members. Alliance also understands that being in business means being an active and involved member of the community at large. This year, the personnel at Alliance’s Wilmington branches in North Carolina reached out to contribute to a wide variety of fund raising drives and charitable organizations they felt could make a difference.

WARM is an organization that works with organizations and businesses in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties. They bring people together to rebuild and repair homes for low income residents—many of whom are elderly and disabled—and allows them to live safely and independently in their own homes. Alliance was a presenting sponsor contributing $2,000.

The Cape Fear Community College Foundation manages cash contributions, estate gifts, donated services, and supplies for educational purposes. Most of the funds raised are for CFCC students in the form of scholarships, grants, and aid to help them directly with their education. Alliance contributed $1,000 for sponsorship of a Business Degree Scholarship.

The Azalea Festival is Wilmington’s annual community celebration and the largest festival of its kind in the state. Founded in 1948, the Azalea Festival is Wilmington’s premier event. Each April, five days of big-name entertainment, festive galas, fun family events, and Southern hospitality showcase the charms of the Wilmington area. For community pride, the North Carolina Azalea Festival has no equal. Alliance contributed $2,000 as a sponsor.

Adopt-an-ANGEL is a New Hanover county based adoption outreach program founded by volunteers that partner with municipal animal shelters to increase adoptions of dogs and cats while also providing spaying and neutering. Since 2004, close to 4,000 animals have found loving homes through this unique safety net. Alliance raised $425.36 in donations and pet supplies through their branch offices.

Trick or Treat Under the Sea is held at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher in Kure Beach, NC. This is a family Halloween event featuring indoor trick-or-treating, face painting, storytelling, haunted gardens, and spooky divers in an enormous fish tank. A good time was had by all and Alliance won Third Place in booth/costume design.

The Carousel Center for Abused Children is a non-profit organization committed to assisting victims of child abuse, providing critical care services to children from approximately eight counties throughout southeastern North Carolina. Referrals are made through law enforcement, social services and physicians. Last fiscal year, the center provided services to 227 children with allegations of sexual & physical abuse. 82% of the children seen were 11 years old or younger. Alliance contributed $5,000 to this worthy cause. Alliance personnel also perform in their annual Gala, dancing and lip-synching on stage.

The UNCW Involvement Carnival is a chance for UNCW students—especially freshmen and transfer students—to see what student organizations, departments, religious organizations, and community service agencies will suit their needs best. Local businesses also take part in this event and Alliance is one of the hosts. This year there were over 250 for-profit and nonprofit participants.

Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk has raised more than $469 million to help fight breast cancer since 1993. The American Cancer Society reminds us that the journey to end breast cancer starts with a single step—and eight million charity walkers across the country have volunteered to take that first step. Alliance Credit Union was one of the top three companies in the Wilmington Walk in October and raised $4,700.11 while also attending the registration table.

Alliance is a proud supporter of Toys for Tots. The U. S. Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide community action project as the U. S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Program. The program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December and distributes these toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.

Other fundraising opportunities that came to the attention of Alliance was The Children’s Miracle Network, which is an international non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Here Alliance raised $441.69. They also donated three complete computer systems to Gregory Elementary and thirteen PCs to WHQR Public Radio Station.

North Carolina Regional Vice President Rick DeCresente (right) makes a computer donation at Gregory Elementary School.

Alliance Credit Union in Wilmington would like to encourage everyone to share their love and help their neighbors and make the holiday season a happy, peaceful, and joyful time for everyone.

Do you ever have a hard time leaving this guy at home when you are off to start your day? This Friday, June 22, 2012, Alliance Credit Union invites all members and employees to take part in Pet Sitters International’s Annual “Take Your Dog To Work Day.” This day is revolved around celebrating dogs and promoting their adoption. Alliance Credit Union would like to see you and your furry friend come in and enjoy a day at the office with us! Dog treats will be provided to all of our canine visitors.

Employees are invited to make donations as they bring their dogs to work. The credit union will then match the amount of donations received and donate the money to local animal shelters.

Many companies have “gone to the dogs” for a good cause since the first celebration in 1999. This day was created to celebrate what good companions dogs make and to encourage their adoptions. Employees and members of Alliance CU are invited to share in the experience of the joy that pets bring to the workplace and support the local pet community.

We will be taking photos of all of the pooches that come in for the day; we are hoping that they are photogenic! Alliance Credit Union looks forward to seeing you AND your dog on Friday, June 22nd for some fun with man’s best friend.

The season of giving is year round at Alliance. The holidays are no exception. We surprised people with a gift of $20. An unexpected gift, to make them smile, to treat themselves or treat others. A gift that may be needed, or a gift of something extra. No matter what time of year, a random act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s life and in our communities. Happy Holidays from Alliance Credit Union.

What if you went to one of your favorite restaurants for lunch and ordered all of your favorite dishes? You sit down and find a note at your table saying, “What if someone did something nice for you just because?” Then someone walked up to you and said, “I’d like to pay for your lunch today.” Would you believe them? Would you be surprised, or wonder why? What if they just wanted you to know they care about their community and your financial well-being.
